18 killed,15 injured in stampede at New Delhi Railway Station, investigation ordered

 NEW DELHI: At least  18 people died and fifteen people were injured due to a stampede at New Delhi Railway Station on Friday night, according to reports.

The incident occurred,when a huge crowd had gathered at the railway station due to the sudden cancellation of two trains going to Prayagraj. This sudden announcement created panic among the passengers, leading to a stampede-like situation.

The accident took place on platform numbers 14 and 15, where trains going towards Prayagraj usually operate. The railway administration has intensified relief and rescue operations. Four fire engines are on the spot and the injured have been immediately taken to the hospital.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has expressed grief over this unfortunate incident and ordered a high-level inquiry into the entire matter.

He said that at present the situation at New Delhi Railway Station (NDLS) is under control. Delhi Police and RPF are present. The injured have been taken to the hospital. Four special trains are being run to evacuate the suddenly increased crowd. He said that an investigation will be conducted to find out how the stampede situation arose and where the system was lacking.

According to railway officials, an unprecedented crowd situation arose near platforms 13 and 14 at New Delhi Railway Station at around 10 pm tonight. Due to this sudden rush, some passengers present on the platform fainted, leading to stampede-like situation. This caused panic, later the situation was controlled by reducing the crowd.

 

 Northern Railway immediately ran four special trains to evacuate the unprecedented crowd. Now the crowd has reduced. Meanwhile, unconscious and injured passengers have been taken to nearby hospitals by RPF and Delhi Police.

The Chief Casualty Medical Officer of LNJP Hospital has confirmed the death of 15 people during treatment, including three children. At the same time, some injured are being treated at Lady Hardinge Hospital.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena expressed deep grief over the incident and directed the Chief Secretary and Police Commissioner to expedite the relief work. He said that all hospitals have been asked to be ready to deal with the emergency.

At the same time, former Chief Minister Atishi has described the incident as unfortunate and has appealed to the railway administration to provide help to the affected passengers as soon as possible.

The railway administration has appealed to the passengers to remain calm and not pay attention to rumors. Also, special helpline numbers are likely to be issued to help the affected passengers. After the incident, anger is being seen among the passengers, and the railway administration is being demanded to make better arrangements for crowd control.
