30 killed, 60 injured in Maha Kumbh stampede,official confirmation 18 hours after the disaster
Confirming the death toll of 30 people in the stampede, Deputy Inspector General (DGI) Vaibhav Krishna told a press conference on Wednesday evening that 60 others were injured in the stampede, about 18 hours after the incident.
He said that 25 of the dead have been identified. According to the DIG, 36 injured are still undergoing treatment.
However, there are still many questions about the exact number of injured and dead. Unconfirmed sources and many people present at the scene say that the death toll could be much higher.
DIG Mahakumbha Vaibhav Krishna said that some of the injured have been taken away by their families. 36 people are undergoing treatment in the medical hospital.
At present, a helpline number 1920 has been issued for the convenience of devotees. Through this information about the injured person can be obtained. CM Yogi Adityanath had requested all Mahamandaleshwars, saints, akhadas to take holy bath with some delay. After this Amrit Snan of Akharas has been completed safely.
