46 die, including 37 children in Bihar during 'Well-Being' festival

 At least 46 people including 37 children drowned while taking holy bath in rivers and ponds in separate incidents during Jivitputrika Vrat festival in Bihar,the officials said.

These incidents took place in 15 districts of the state during the festival on Wednesday.

According to a statement issued by the State Disaster Management Department (DMD) on Thursday, "46 people died due to drowning while taking holy bath on the occasion of Jitputrika festival celebrated in the state yesterday."

 

 During Jivitputrika festival, women observe fast for the well-being of their children.

After the instructions of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, DMD has started the process of giving ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the deceased.

The statement said that the ex-gratia amount has already been given to the families of eight deceased.

The districts where these accidents occurred include East Champaran, West Champaran, Nalanda, Aurangabad, Kaimur, Buxar, Siwan, Rohtas, Saran, Patna, Vaishali, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Gopalganj and Arwal.
