Acute water crisis hunts MCL colonies at Talcher
ANGUL:Severe water crisis is prevailing for the last two days in eight residential colonies of Mahanadi coalfield Limited at Talcher .Coal workers are deprived of even a bucket of water as the supply of the water from MCL water supply system has stopped since yesterday. It is because Rengali without any notice stopped water release forcing Samal barrage downstream to follow the step. As a result there was no water in downstream Brahmani river from where MCL draws water to its colonies and coal mines.
“Water are supplied twice a day normally from integrated water supply stem from MCL at Talcher daily.Thousands of coal workers and their families depend upon this water supply which comes from river Brahmani. For last two days, there was no supply of water to the colonies forcing people to suffer like worst due to want t of water. We appeal both MCL top brass and district collector to intervene for the normalization of the water supply.
He said he has taken up the matter with Talcher Sub-collector and Angul collector for the release of water from Rengali and Samal. In the meanwhile, people of the coalfield are suffering from a water crisis.
Talcher sub collector Manoj Tripathy said he was intimated about the situation by MCL authorities and then after he had taken the issue with Rengali authorities urging them to release water .Rengali stopped the water because the water level in the dam receded alarmingly in the month of June.
