After Waqf, RSS now eyes on church lands : Rahul Gandhi

NEW DELHI:The controversy surrounding the Waqf Amendment Bill shows no signs of abating even after its passage in Parliament. The congress leader and LoP  Rahul Gandhi has once again targeted the government over the Waqf Bill raising questions by posting on the social media platform X.

Sharing a news article on X, Rahul Gandhi said that he had said the Waqf Bill is currently an attack on Muslims, but in the future, other communities will be targeted. He further wrote that it didn’t take long for the RSS’s focus to shift toward Christians after the Waqf issue.

“The Constitution is the only shield that protects our people from such attacks, and safeguarding it is our collective duty”Gandhi said.

 

For your information, the news article shared by Rahul Gandhi states that after the successful passage of the Waqf Bill in Parliament, the RSS has now turned its attention to the land of the Catholic Church. An article published on the web portal ‘ Organiser’, a magazine associated with the RSS, titled "Who owns more land in India? Catholic Church vs Waqf Board debate," claims that Catholic institutions own 7 crore hectares of land, making them the largest non-governmental landowner.

It is noteworthy that the Waqf Board Amendment Bill, 2024, has been passed by both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. In the Lok Sabha, the bill received 288 votes in favor and 232 votes against, while in the Rajya Sabha, it garnered 128 votes in favor and 95 against. It will now be sent to the President.Once the President gives assent, it will become law.
