At least 21 dead,18 injured after Italian bus falls off the overpass in Italy’s Venice
VENICE(Italy): At least 21 people died and 18 were injured after a bus carrying tourists crashed off an overpass and caught fire near Venice in northern Italy and caught fire, officials said.
According to reports, the bus was also carrying passengers from France and Croatia.
The bus veered off the road and fell close to railway lines in the district of Mestre, which is connected to Venice by a bridge.
The cause of the accident is yet not known and investigations into the crash have been started.
Reports said ,the bus was carrying 40 passengers, of whom 21 had died and 18 were injured. The death toll could rise as the condition of the several injured passengers are stated to be critical.
Officials said that all the deceased are foreign nationals.Five of the victims were Ukrainians and one was German, said reports.
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed her condolences, saying in a statement that her government's thoughts were with "the victims, their families and their friends."
