Foreign Minister Israel Katz accused him of not clearly condemning the Iranian attack. Guterres issued a brief statement after the bombing that said, "I condemn the escalation of the Middle East conflict, which is growing unabated. It must stop. A ceasefire is absolutely necessary." The move deepens an already widening rift between Israel and the United Nations.
