BJP people talk about changing Constitution, not our ministers: Kharge
NEW DELHI: Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge said in the Rajya Sabha that this morning, an issue came up in the House about changing the Constitution. Some members, especially Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, raised this matter. The Leader of the House, JP Nadda, also supported him on this topic. "I just want to say that no such statement was made by any Karnataka minister. They did not talk about changing the Constitution"he said.
In fact, this issue led to a massive uproar in the Rajya Sabha on Monday morning. Due to the sloganeering by both ruling and opposition MPs, the proceedings of the Rajya Sabha had to be adjourned till 2 PM. When the House resumed at 2 PM, Congress President and Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge categorically stated that no Congress minister had said anything about changing the Constitution. Kharge added that the repeated talk of amending the Constitution comes from that side (the ruling party).
Addressing the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, he said, 'I want to say this—think impartially—didn’t Bhagwat ji talk about changing the Constitution? RSS-BJP people had said that if they get a two-thirds majority, they will change the Constitution. We have spoken about protecting the Constitution. We will protect the Constitution at all costs.'"
