Budget 2024: Congress says, three important announcements are needed welfare of farmers.

NEW DELHI: The budget session of Parliament is starting from today. Before the budget  presented in Parliament tomorrow the  Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Economic Survey. It is almost certain that the opposition will surround the government on many important issues including NEET paper leak, railway security, UP government's decision regarding Kanwar Yatra. Earlier, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh surrounded the Modi government. He said that three important announcements are needed for farmer welfare in the budget.

1. Legal status to MSP

2. ?MSP fixed on the basis of Swaminathan formula

3. ?Loan waiver for farmers

He said that among all the failures of the central government, the incompetence and malicious behavior of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare is the most harmful. In the upcoming budget, three main announcements need to be made by the central government for agricultural welfare.

1. Increase MSP for the 22 crops covered under MSP, in line with the C2+50% formula as recommended by the Swaminathan Commission.

2. Give MSP legal status and put in place a system to implement it firmly, including strategic procurement, better regulation and price differential compensation – contrary to the government’s own belief that MSP does not require procurement of all agricultural produce to be implemented legally. All it takes is determination and courage.

3. Establish a permanent commission to assess the need for, measure the magnitude of, and monitor the implementation of farm loan waivers. This much-needed step will provide relief to debt-ridden farmers.

Remember that the central government has the full power to take all three steps. It is just waiting for the self-proclaimed non-biological Prime Minister to show some courage and give up his stubbornness and take a decision in the interest of farmers.

Jairam Ramesh also said that a permanent commission should be set up to assess the need for farmer loan waivers, assess the magnitude and monitor the implementation of farm loan waivers.

According to Jairam Ramesh, in 2008, the UPA led by Manmohan Singh had waived off farm loans worth Rs 72,000 crore, which benefited a large number of farmers.

He claimed, "The government of the non-biological Prime Minister has waived off bank loans of Rs 16 lakh crore of capitalists. But on the other hand, despite receiving a record dividend of Rs 2.11 lakh crore from the RBI this year, it has not waived even a single rupee of farm loan of farmers."

The Congress leader asked, "Will the self-proclaimed non-biological Prime Minister, who is still recovering from the wounds of personal, political and moral defeat on June 4, take these important steps for farm welfare?"
