Carcass of a 15-year-old tusker found in Pallahara forest

ANGUL:The carcass of a 15-year-old sub-adult ale tusker was found in Pallahara jungle under Pallahara range of Deogarh Forest Division this morning with its tusks intact. Forest officials were tight-lipped about the cause of the death ruling out poaching.They say to wait for a post mortem report about the cause of the death of the animal.

According to Deogarh DFO Magar Danaji, today morning villagers of Saida under Pallahara range under Jamadi secion saw the body of an elephant lying in the nullah in the gramya jungle.They informed the local forester who alerted the Pallahara ranger and DFO.

The DFO who rushed the spot immediately said there was no injury marks found on his body while ruling out infighting or poaching.”We can not say anything at the moment before the post mortem report is out.The carcasss had no injury mark and the tusks were intact.We have conducted post mortem with the help of veterinary doctors of Pallahara and samples were sent to OUAT”,said DFO.

Pallahara and Khamar range of Angul district remain under the jurisdiction of Deogarh Forest Division causing a lot of inconveniences to forest activities at these two ranges.

Earlier,Angul circle authorities had written to the state government to include these two ranges into Angul forest division for smooth functioning of forest activities.But so far the government has not taken any decision in this regard.
