Congress demands investigation into BJP's role in Delhi liquor scam too

NEW DELHI: Citing the CAG report tabled in the Delhi Assembly, Congress has demanded that the scope of the "liquor scam" investigation should be widened and the role of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) must also be probed.

Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee President Devender Yadav,on Tuesday speaking to reporters questioned why all 14 CAG reports were not presented and why the role of then Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal, during the formulation of the excise policy, was overlooked. He said that a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) should be formed to investigate the "liquor scam."

A CAG report was presented in Delhi Assembly on Tuesday, raising concerns over the liquor policy of the Arvind Kejriwal government.Yadav said, "Congress had long suspected that this policy was made with full of irregularities, impacting government revenue."

The Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee had also submitted a written complaint to investigative agencies on the liquor policy, including evidence of BJP's involvement. "In this context, the question arises—why weren’t all 14 reports related to the liquor policy presented in the Assembly?" he asked.

Yadav added, "We want the CAG report to be examined by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) as well. A PAC should be formed at the earliest so that this report can be investigated, and those involved in the loot can be punished."

He noted, "Traditionally, the PAC is chaired by the Leader of the Opposition, but in Delhi, the government has been leading it. We demand that these reports be brought into public discussion as well."

Yadav claimed that some significant questions regarding the roles of prominent BJP leaders and the then Lieutenant Governor were ignored in the CAG report. He asked, "Why and by whom was the decision made to change three excise directors
