Congress will defeat BJP in Gujarat like we did in Ayodhya, says Rahul Gandhi

 Fast Mail News

AHMEDABAD: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said in Ahmedabad on Saturday that his party will defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming elections in the same way as it defeated it in Ayodhya in the recent Lok Sabha elections.

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Gandhi made this remark while addressing a conference of party workers in Ahmedabad.

Rahul Gandhi said, "They (BJP) have challenged us by threatening  and damaging our office. I want to tell you that together we will break their government in the same way as they have damaged our office. Take it in writing that Congress will contest elections in Gujarat and defeat Modi and BJP in Gujarat, as we did in Ayodhya."

He said that Congress will win in Gujarat and will make a new beginning from this state.

Rahul Gandhi was referring to the incident where Congress and BJP members clashed outside the Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan, the Congress state headquarters in Ahmedabad's Paldi area, on July 2 when members of the BJP's youth wing reached there to protest Gandhi's remarks about Hindus.

According to police, there was stone pelting between the two sides in which five policemen, including an assistant commissioner of police, were injured.

In his speech, the former Congress chief also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the BJP's defeat from Uttar Pradesh's Faizabad Lok Sabha seat, which also includes the city of Ayodhya.

"People of Ayodhya got angry when they came to know that not a single local person was invited for the inauguration of the Ram temple," Rahul Gandhi said.

He claimed that Prime Minister Modi wanted to contest the election from Ayodhya but his surveyors advised him against it, saying he would lose and his political career would be over.
