Congress's nationalism unites the country, BJP's nationalism divides it : Pilot

NEW DELHI: Congress General Secretary Sachin Pilot launched a sharp attack on the BJP over the issue of nationalism on Wednesday, stating that the time has come to give a befitting reply to those who seize power by invoking religion, caste, language, regionalism, attire, and food habits.

While presenting the party’s resolution for discussion at the Congress convention here, he  claimed that Congress’s nationalism is about uniting the country, whereas the BJP’s nationalism is about dividing it.

Pilot said, “The conditions in the country are evident to everyone. Over the past ten years, inflation, unemployment, economic inequality, and religious polarization have crossed all limits of cruelty.”

He added, “That’s why Congress is now committed to changing the atmosphere of hatred, negativity, and despair, and walking the path of justice and struggle.”

Taking a dig at the BJP, Pilot said, “To those who wear the garb of nationalism to garner votes, I want to tell them that the Congress party was born for the country’s independence. There is no other example in the entire world of the sacrifices made by our leaders in the history of the Congress party.”

He emphasized that Congress leaders took bullets to their chests to keep the country united, and this is what Congress’s nationalism stands for.

The Congress leader claimed that Congress’s nationalism is about uniting the nation, while the BJP’s nationalism is about dividing it. He said, “Congress’s nationalism is about weaving the country’s diversity into unity, whereas the BJP’s nationalism seeks to destroy unity in diversity.”

Pilot stated that the time has come to give a strong response and hold a mirror to those who seize power by exploiting religion, caste, language, regionalism, attire, and food habits.

He remarked, “To those who talk about creating a Congress-free India today, I want to remind them that when Rajiv Gandhi became Prime Minister, Congress had more than 400 MPs. Yet, we never heard him say that he wanted to create an opposition-free country.” The Congress leader added that the roots of Congress run deep not only in Gujarat but across the entire country.

Taking a jibe at the BJP, Pilot said that the people of the country have shown a mirror to those who raised the slogan of crossing 400 seats.
