Denmark: Greenland Will Never Be A Part of America

(Fast Mail):--Denmark has rejected new attempts by U.S. President Donald Trump to incorporate Greenland into the United States. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen delivered a blunt response to Trump, stating that Greenland belongs to the people of Greenland and will never become a part of America. Greenland’s Prime Minister also issued a sharp rebuttal to Trump’s remarks.

On Wednesday, Donald Trump announced that his administration strongly supports the right of Greenland’s people to determine their own future. He added, “And if you so choose, we welcome you into the United States.” In response, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen clarified Denmark’s stance, emphasizing that Greenland’s future is a decision solely for its people. She said, “Greenland belongs to the people of Greenland. This is a position that we, on behalf of the Danish government, support very firmly.”

Greenland’s Prime Minister Mute Egede also outright rejected Trump’s claim saying that the people of Greenland have no desire to become part of the United States. Denmark’s Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen echoed the same sentiment, stating, “Greenland will never be a part of America.”

Greenland, the world’s largest island, was a Danish colony until 1953. After that, it became an integral part of Denmark, and its people were granted Danish citizenship. In 1979, Greenland gained self-governance, though Denmark retained control over its foreign and defense policies. This is not the first time Trump has expressed interest in making Greenland part of the United States.

Previously, Denmark had dismissed the idea, stating that Greenland is not for sale. On Wednesday, Greenland’s Prime Minister Egede reiterated that the people of Greenland will determine their own future and have no desire to become either fully Danish or American. In a Facebook post, he wrote, “We don’t want to be American, nor Danish—we are Kalaallit (Greenlanders). Americans and their leaders need to understand this.”
