ANGUL(FMNews):-Despite the enforcement of Essential Services maintenance Act (ESMA) in Talcher industrial belt,BJP workers resorted to economic blockade at Jindal India Thermal Power Plant from this morning for an indefinite period.
The agitationists were not allowing vehicles including coal to the plant paralysing all entry points into the plant demanding fulfilment of seven point charter of demands.The blockade was led by Pallahara MLA Ashok Kumar Mohanty.
Earlier in a notice,Dereng gram panchayat BJP unit president Sushil Kumar Mohanty had warned to block the power plant unless his seven point charter of demands are fulfilled by the company authorities.The main demands are appointment of locals in maintenance work, increase in the salary of those locals employed permanently in the plant.
The other demands are increase of compensatory allowance from three lakhs to 15 lakhs rupees, provision of lighting and roads. He said to continue the blockade for an indefinite period unless demands are met.
A company official requesting anonymity said that the plant functioned normally though there was no movement of coal trucks into the plant today. He said all the works of rehabilitation and displacement are done according to the norms of the state government.
As the agitationists began their blockade since morning local police and magistrate rushed to the spot.In their presence there was a talk between company officials and agitationists by which it was agreed to call off the strike as there will be a talk between two sides on January 13 next on the demands.The blockade lifted at around 3pm without any untoward incident.
Talcher sub-collector Samir Kumar Jena when contacted, said he was watching the situation and if need be he would personally hold a meeting of both sides.
