Dhenkanal man run over,locals staged NH blockade

DHENKANAL: Irate locals locked National Highway- 53 linking Talcher to Jajpur road  in a protest against the mishap which killed a villager of Jatia.All the traffic came to a stand still for more than one hour due to the blockade of the local villagers demanding compensation to the victims.

 The blockade was lifted after the intervention of the local administrative and police officials.

According to police,Antarayami Sahoo of village Jatia of around 65 year old while going to Sarang market on his bicycle this afternoon.At about 3pm today when he was crossing the road at Saranga a speeding mini truck coming from Talcher side hit him and killed him on the spot.

 

 

 As the news spread of the death due to the accident,locals gathered and stopped the traffic demanding compensation.

The SDPO,Kamakhyanagar sub-division Snehasis Sahoo said on being informed, Parjang police reached on the spot and persuaded the locals to withdraw the blockade assuring measures to prevent road mishaps in that part of NH.He said the driver of the mini truck has been detained and the truck seized

He said elaborate steps are being made to prevent such types of occurrences by intensifying police patrols on that road.

An irate local says that hundreds of vehicles particularly coal laden trucks are plying on this route at a high speed throwing all norms of safety.He demanded speed breakers at vulnerable points like Sarang chhak to prevent such type of road mishaps.
