Do We Have to Chant 'Jai Shri Ram' Three Times a Day? : Mahua on Threats to Fish Sellers in Delhi's CR Park

NEW DELHI:Delhi Police will investigate the claim made by Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra that some individuals associated with right-wing ideology attempted to forcibly shut down fish shops in the Chittaranjan Park (CR Park) area of South Delhi. So far, no formal complaint has been received in this regard, but the police are verifying the facts related to the social media posts.

Mahua Moitra shared a video on social media platform 'X' (formerly Twitter) and wrote, “Please watch how saffron brigade BJP goons are threatening fish-eating Bengalis in Delhi’s Chittaranjan Park. Residents say this has never happened in 60 years.”

In another post, she wrote, “The temple in Chittaranjan Park, which BJP goons are now claiming, was built by non-vegetarian market vendors. They worship there and grand puja events are organized there. This is a ‘wonderful’ gift on the completion of three months of BJP rule in Delhi.”

In a third post, Mahua wrote, “Received a WhatsApp message from a Bengali living near CR Park saying that meat and fish shops are being forcibly shut down and the situation is extremely bad.”

Meanwhile, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva, in an official statement, said, “Everyone should respect the dignity of a place of worship, and the fish traders of CR Park have always done so. The fish markets are legally allotted and are a necessity in the area. The traders maintain high hygiene standards and regularly participate in the social and religious activities of CR Park.”

A police source, on the other hand, stated, “This market is licensed according to the records of the Delhi Municipal Corporation. The video appears to be old, but we are confirming the date of the incident. So far, we have not received any complaints in this matter.”
