Flood havoc in Assam : So far 60 dead, over 6 lakh affected
According to reports,so far more than 60 people have lost their lives in the flood. Due to continuous rain, the water level in the Brahmaputra river has increased. A dozen districts including Nagaon, Dibrugarh have been submerged in flood water.
“Houses are filled with water up to the knees. NDRF teams are engaged in relief and rescue work. People are being taken to safe places”,according to officials.
In view of the flood situation due to heavy rains, SP Golaghat issued an order saying, "All passenger vehicles, both private and commercial, will be allowed to move at a strictly controlled speed by police personnel every half an hour. Pilot vehicles will be stationed at Bagori border and Panbari. They will coordinate with Nagaon police and forest staff."
More than 26 percent of the 233 forest camps located in Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve have been submerged due to rising water levels.
Road connectivity has also been cut off from many areas on the India-China border. Due to heavy rains in Itanagar, schools have been ordered to be closed from July 2 to 6,reports said.
