Former Dhenkanal MLA gets daughter-in-law remarried; brings applause
DHENKANAL: In a heartwarming incident, the re-marriage of a 32-year-old widow and the daughter-in-law of a former MLA in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district was solemnized bringing cheers and praise for his noble deed in the society.
The former MLA of Gondia in Dhenkanal district Nabin Nanda(64)’s son Lt. Sambit Kumar Nanda had married to one Madhusmita Panda of Kabatabandha area of Jajpur district ten years back.Madhusmita had completed her MBA course before her marriage.
But ,Nanda was in grief and became speechless when he heard about the demise of his son Sambit due to Covid-19 in the year 2021.But,Nanda after his son’s death,was always in grief for his daughter-in-law after losing his son. At last, to set an example for other widows and families , and for the society as a whole he took this initiative to solemnize the re-marriage of his daughter-in-law.
On Tuesday,Nanda performed the re-marriage of his daughter at a laxmi temple in Bhubaneswar Nayapalli area in the presence of Madhusmita’s father,two brothers and other family members.
Nabin Nanda,who was two time MLA from Gondia and Dhenkanal assembly constituencies told TOI,”Madhusmita’s father first asked me to consider for the re-marriage of his daughter.As I felt,life couldn’t be stopped for anyone,so i encouraged the daughter-in-law to start a new life and to move on herself with someone".
"I have a grand daughter who is now 5-years-old and she is now continuing her study at a Dhenkanal Saraswati Mandir school.I wanted my grand daughter to live with us with my family and decided to arrange re-marriage of my daughter-in-law.We then started looking for a groom for the daughter-in-law. We searched for a groom and at last,found one Shiv Chandra Pati,38 year old,the son of Kishore Chandra Pati and a resident of Baleshwar Remuna area who agreed to marry",he said.
The marriage was solemnized on Tuesday. Shiv Chandan ,who is working as an HR head in a private company at Cuttack happily accepted the proposal and started his new life. After the completion of his marriage,Shiv Chandan said,”I am quite happy to get Madhusmita in my life.She has a big heart. Hope,life will be smooth and will try to live happily”.
“On a day of National Girl Child Day, we performed the marriage ceremony and it will be a memorable day for me ,for my family”,Nanda said.
The son of former MLA Nabin Nanda, Sambit,who was then at the age of 38 passed away while undergoing treatment for his lung infection at a private hospital in Cuttack.
Nilamani Panda,60 the father of Madhusmita who hails from Kabatabandha area of Jajpur district is now a happy one too by seeing his daughter get re-married. He thanks god, and particularly Madhusmita’s father-in-law Nabin Nanda who allowed and arranged his daughter’s remarriage.
Sambit,nabin's son was admitted at a private hospital in the year 2021.As his condition deteriorated and Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) required for treatment.As he didn’t get this facility he died. The ECMO facilities are not available in Cuttack.
Before the death of his son, the former MLA had requested all top politicians of the state,including the Chief Minister, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan to help him save his son’s life. ‘But at last, owing to the negligence of the health department i lost my son’,Nanda alleged.
Naveen Nanda had unsuccessfully contested the Assembly election in 2019 from Dhenkanal on Congress ticket. He was earlier elected to State Assembly twice from Gondia and Dhenkanal Assembly segments from BJD.
