France has condemned the latest Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, which resulted in over 400 deaths, and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities.
"France calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities, which are jeopardizing efforts to free the hostages and threatening the lives of the civilian population in Gaza," the French Foreign Ministry stated during an online press conference on Tuesday.
The French government urged all parties to fully respect the ceasefire and engage in negotiations to ensure its sustainability. Additionally, France called on the Israeli authorities to ensure the continued protection of all civilians, and stop blocking access to water and electricity, and the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza.
At the same time, France demanded that Hamas unconditionally release all remaining Israeli hostages held in Gaza.
The Israeli airstrikes, which took place early Tuesday, killed at least 413 people. Israeli officials warned that the assault would escalate if Hamas did not release the hostages.
The strikes, which broke nearly two months of ceasefire, came amid ongoing indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas, which aimed to secure a new truce that could include both the release of hostages and an end to hostilities.
