Hemant Soren back as CM of Jharkhand

RANCHI: JMM Working President Hemant Soren. Hemet Soren has once again is back as  the Chief Minister of the state after being released from jail. Governor CP Radhakrishnan administered the oath of office and secrecy to Soren in a simple ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan on Thursday evening. The rest of the ministers of his cabinet will be sworn in on July 7 or some other day.

Outgoing CM Champai Soren, Jharkhand Congress in-charge Ghulam Ahmed Mir and top leaders of the Jharkhand unit of the India Alliance were present at the swearing-in ceremony. Soren was arrested by the ED on January 31 this year in a money laundering case related to the land scam, after which he resigned from the post of CM at 8.30 pm the same night. Champai Soren, who was a part of his cabinet, took over the CM's chair on February 2 in his place. Hemant Soren came out of jail after getting bail from the High Court on June 28 and on the seventh day itself, he has once again taken over the CM's chair. This is his third term as CM.

 

 

 Earlier on 29 December 2019, he took oath as CM for the second time after the victory of the JMM-Congress-RJD alliance in the assembly elections. He became CM for the first time on 13 July 2013 and his tenure lasted till 28 December 2014. About two hours before taking oath, Soren shared a file photo of January 31 on social media, in which he was handing over his resignation to the Governor. With this photo, Soren wrote, "Every injustice knows that one day justice will defeat it. Jai Jharkhand."

Earlier, the then CM of Jharkhand Champai Soren reached Raj Bhavan at 7.15 pm on Wednesday and submitted his resignation to Governor CP Radhakrishnan. Along with this, the new leader of the ruling coalition, Hemant Soren, presented a letter of support of 45 MLAs to the Governor, staking claim for the new government. After this, on Thursday afternoon at around 1.30 pm, Governor CP Radhakrishnan appointed Hemant Soren as the Chief Minister and invited him to form the government.
