India-UAE partnership to grow stronger in shifting global order: EAM Jaishankar

The global order is undergoing significant transformation, bringing both challenges and opportunities. External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar emphasized that these are times when true friendships are tested and strengthened, highlighting the growing synergy between India and the UAE. Speaking at the 75th Republic Day celebrations hosted by the Indian Embassy in Abudhabi, Dr Jaishankar underlined the shared values and mutual trust that bind the two nations. “As we contemplate the global scenario, there is much that draws our two nations together,” he said, expressing confidence in the continued strengthening of their collaboration on international platforms.

The event was graced by key dignitaries, including Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs; Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Tolerance; and Dr. Thani Bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade and Chairman of the Emirates Drug Establishment.

Under the joint vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and  Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the Emirate,  the partnership has achieved remarkable milestones. Dr Jaishankar cited the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), local currency trading mechanisms, and the BAPS Hindu Mandir as symbols of this flourishing relationship.

Dr Jaishankar highlighted that the India-UAE partnership is, at its core, a story of its people. He also noted the growing Indian diaspora in the UAE, now over 4 million strong, and the 4.5 million Indian tourists who visit the UAE annually. These numbers, he said, reflect the warmth and mutual respect between the two nations. He assured the diaspora of India’s commitment to improving their quality of life and expressed gratitude to the UAE government for its active support.

The minister is on a three-day bilateral visit to the UAE and will deliver the keynote address at the inaugural session of Raisina Middle East, to be held in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.
