International Women's Day: A Celebration of Honor and Strength, Know Its History and Significance
On the occasion of Women's Day,everybody send good wishes to relatives, friends, and female colleagues, along with giving cards, chocolates, flowers, and other gifts. However, not many people are fully aware of why and since when International Women's Day is celebrated.
In fact, the tradition of observing Women's Day began due to a women workers' movement in 1908. On this day, 15,000 women protested in New York City, demanding shorter working hours, better wages, and certain other rights. A year later, the Socialist Party of America declared this day as the first National Women's Day.
In 1910, an international conference of working women was held in Copenhagen, where the idea of celebrating this day as International Women's Day was proposed.
Gradually, it gained popularity worldwide as International Women's Day. The day received official recognition as International Women's Day in 1975, when the United Nations began observing it with a specific ‘theme.’
