Iran launches missiles at Israel in response to killings of Haniyeh, Nasrallah
The attack started around 8.15 p.m. local time (1645GMT) on Tuesday. Iranian media said at least 400 missiles had been launched so far.
Sirens sounded all over the occupied territories on Tuesday night as Iran launched hundreds of missiles towards the Zionist entity, in a retaliatory attack dubbed Operation True Promise II.
Flares and missiles were seen in the Tel Aviv sky and explosions could be heard in the occupied al-Quds, sending Zionist settlers fleeing into shelters.
In a preliminary statement, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRCG) said the attack was in response to the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, and IRGC Commander Abbas Nilforoshan.
Haniyeh was assassinated in Tehran last month. Nasrallah was assassinated in Beirut on Friday along with Nilforoshan.
The guard corps warned that if Israel responds to the missile barrage, it will face more “crushing attacks.
The IRGC further said that the attack was in line with the country’s right to legitimate self-defense as per the United Nations Charter, and in response to the regime's escalating crimes—backed by the United States—against the people of Lebanon and Gaza.
The Zionist regime will face more crushing attacks in case it reacts to Iran’s operation, the IRGC added.
In a follow-up statement, the IRGC said three Israeli military bases in Tel Aviv were hit during the operation.
US President Joe Biden said, "At my direction, the United States military actively supported Israel's defense, and we are still assessing the impact. The United States fully supports Israel. The national security team is in constant contact with Israeli officials and their counterparts."
After the missile attacks by Iran, Australia's PM Anthony Albanese's reaction has also come to fore. Albanese posted on social site X and said, "Australia condemns Iran's missile attack on Israel... The hostility put civilians at risk. We are closely monitoring the situation."
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also strongly condemned Iran's attack on Israel. Starmer said, "I condemn this attempt by the Iranian regime to harm innocent Israeli civilians, escalate this incredibly dangerous situation and take the region even closer to danger. This cannot be tolerated." We stand with Israel and we recognize its right to self-defense.
Spain's reaction has also come after the missile attack by Iran. Spain's Foreign Minister has condemned the Iranian attack on Israel and appealed for restraint.
