Locals oppose Baitarani West coal mines in Chhendipada,Outfit threatens no industry in Angul

 Angul:Hundreds of affected people  by upcoming Baitarani West Coalmine at Chhendipada have held a massive demonstration before Angul collectorate demanding cancellation of the coal project.

The coal project is owned by Gujarat Mineral Development Cooperation at Chhendipada affecting dozen of villages  and dense green cover in the area.It  will also impact natural stream in the region besides eating hundreds agricultural land in the area. Project authorities so far held public hearing for environmental clearance and going ahead to implement the coal project.

Opposing the coal project the local people came out in a large number to protest  in district head quarter calling for scrapping of the project. They came in a procession starting from Hemsurpara and marched through the town before reaching the collectorate veteran social leader Prafulla Samantra Chhendiapda Surakhya Mancha Sasmita Behera,Talcher-Angul Banchao Andolan activists spoke on the occasion.

Speakers pointed out that there is no justification of behind opening a coal project in the Chhendipada area of Angul district which s branded  as one of the most polluted area in the country.They expressed their apprehension the upcoming projects in Chhendipada will deprive thousands of people from there tradition livelihood.

 

 

 Speaking at the meeting veteran social activist Prafulla Samantara called upon the people to remain united not to allow any coal mines in Chhendiapada due to degradation in environment and abnormal rise of the temperature in the region.He said the turnout of such a large gathering indicates public opposition in upcoming coal mines in Chhendipada area.

Talcher–Angul Banchao Andolan(TABA) activists spoke about the need to scrap the proposed coal mine Baitarani West Coal mine because  it would cause lagre-scale displacement and pollute the environment.He reiterated that that the coal mine would also uproot thousands of trees and ruin the environment in the reason.

He also questioned apprehended that this coal mine would last for next thrity years  and after that where the affected people will go. This is important question he raised.He also threatened that his outfit will would not allow any further industry in Talcher-Angul industrial region.Because,it kills people slowly and steadily.
