Maharashtra Congress demands resignation of Fadnavis over Pune bus rape case

MUMBAI: The horrific incident of the rape of a 26-year-old woman inside a bus in Maharashtra’s Pune city has also heated up the state’s politics. The Maharashtra Mahayuti government and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis have come directly under the Congress party’s attack. State Congress president Harshvardhan Sapkal has demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis over the Pune rape case.

Maharashtra Congress president Sapkal stated that Devendra Fadnavis, who has been in power before and continues to be in power, has seen an increase in crimes against women throughout his tenure. Even after the incident, the accused has not yet been apprehended. Fadnavis, who is also the state’s Home Minister, has failed to ensure the safety of sisters.

It may be noted that a shocking case of rape has come to light inside a bus at Pune’s Swargate bus stand. After committing the crime, the accused fled the scene. The police have registered a case under various sections based on the woman’s complaint. According to senior police officials, a total of eight teams have been formed to apprehend the accused, and his identity has been established.

Reports suggest that the 26-year-old woman, who works in Pune, was waiting at the bus stand in the evening to catch a bus to her village. During this time, a man approached her and started sweet-talking to build rapport. The accused asked, “Didi, where are you going?” The woman replied that she was waiting for a bus to her village. The accused then told her that the bus to her village would leave from another location. Believing his words, the woman followed him to a bus parked elsewhere, where he raped her and then fled.
