Mass dharna to contain pollution and displacement in Talcher-Angul- industrial region

 ANGUL:A mass Gana dharana  attended by eminent personalities of the district was organised before the collectorate here to save Angul district  from acute pollution,displacement and health hazards.

Noted Gandhian leader and social activist Krishna Mohanty,the convenor of Talcher-Angul Banchao Andolan,Jagadananda Pradhan ,Jayasena Meher, Ritarani Das, Debashish Pattnaik, Praveen Kumar Das, Sachin Kumar Das, Ajay Naik, Parshuram Das, Brahmajyoti Mishra, Manas Pal, Surya Kumar Nath, Rajendra Pradhan, Moti Lal Arya, Sushant Sahu, and many other notable individuals  attended on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion Mohanty deplored that at Chhendipada tree felling are being done daily for coal mining project.Lakhs of trees would be cut in coming days for the coal mining project.She apprehended if the forestation and trees will be wiped out then the environment of Angul will be highly extremely destroyed.

 

 Talcher-Angul Banchao Andolan activists said it is high time to stop industrialisation, particularly new coal mining  both by public and private sector in order to save the population from utter destruction.

Other speakers addressing the occasion warned of catastrophe if current wanton industrialisation in the district which is causing massive displacement, all sorts of pollution health hazards,and destruction of forests.

Later,a delegation met ADM  office where a senior official accepted the memorandum addressed to the chief minister.The memorandum demands provision of drinking water,stop tree felling, stop acquisition of fertile land .creation of massive forest,provision of better medical facilities to the people and provision of permanent employment to the affected and unemployed youths.
