Mismanagement,focus on VIP movement responsible for Mahakumbh stampede: Rahul Gandhi

NEW DELHI:Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has expressed grief over the deaths due to stampede in Prayagraj Mahakumbh.

Rahul Gandhi in social media platform X said, "The news of many deaths and injuries due to the stampede at Prayagraj Mahakumbh is extremely saddening. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families and hope for the speedy recovery of the injured."

“Mismanagement and special attention of the administration on the VIP movement instead of the common devotees are responsible for this incident",he alleged.

Rahul Gandhi further wrote, "Maha Kumbh still has a lot of time left, many more Mahasnans are to be done. Government should improve the system to prevent such tragic incidents from happening again. VIP culture should be curbed and the government should take care of common devotees. Better arrangements should be made to meet the needs of the victims. I request the Congress workers and leaders to help the affected families”.

A stampede broke out at the Sangam area of the Maha Kumbh early Wednesday as crores of pilgrims jostled for space to take a holy dip on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya. Several casualties are feared. The injured have been admitted to a hospital in Sector 2 of Kumbh area.

The incident took place between 1 am and 2 am when some devotees climbed over the barricades at Akhara marg, Adityanath said.

The Amrit Snan on Mauni Amavasya is the most significant ritual of the Maha Kumbh and is expected to draw around 10 crore pilgrims.
