New Delhi Railway Station stampede a 'genocide': congress
NEW DELHI: Terming the New Delhi railway station stampede,in which 18 people died as a "genocide",the congress has demanded resignation of the union railway minister Asini Vaishnav. Congress has demanded to fix responsibility for the death of 18 people due to stampede in New Delhi railway station, alleging, "What happened at New Delhi Railway Station last night is not an accident but a 'genocide'.
Congress leader Supriya shrinate addressing media today said,“Seeing the scene there made my heart tremble. Many devotees full of faith and belief did come to go to Kumbh, but due to the failure of the railway administration, 18 people died of suffocation, which included 9 women, 4 men and 5 children".
She further said, " As per eyewitnesses of the accident gives a goosebump. The porters carried the bodies out. There was no arrangement of police administration and ambulance. There was a pile of dead bodies in the hospital. The faces of the people showed the grief of losing their loved ones as well as the terror they faced at the New Delhi Railway Station. Who is responsible for this massacre of devotees?”
The Congress spokesperson said, “What happened after the failure of the railways is even more shameful. Instead of resigning, the Railway Minister completely went into shamelessness and started whitewashing the entire department and is still bent on shamelessness. Even after such a big accident, a narrative was created that everything is under control. When people were dying in the stampede, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav was busy hiding the death figures.”
Supriya Srinate asked many questions on the incident. She said, “Just a few hours before the accident at New Delhi Railway Station yesterday, the Railway Ministry had a safety review meeting, which was blown to pieces within a few hours”.
Yesterday, on 15 February, 1,500 general tickets were booked every hour at New Delhi Railway Station. The Railways knew how many devotees were going to gather there.
Supriya Srinet said,”The public expects from the government that there should be proper arrangements for transportation for them, police should be deployed, arrangements should be made for crowd management. But if the government cannot make such arrangements for the public, then why are these people in power?”.
