Rahul Gandhi flays Odisha govt over crime against women under BJP rule
The leader of opposition in Lok Sabha wrote on social media platform X, "The horrific incident that took place in Odisha's Bharatpur police station has raised serious questions on the law and order of the country. An army officer who went to seek help from the police was brutally beaten up and his fiancée was harassed in custody. This disgusting incident is shameful for the entire humanity."
He further wrote, "Crimes against women have become completely uncontrolled and unbridled under the BJP government. When injustice flourishes and finds shelter within the government system itself, then from whom should the common citizen expect help? All the culprits of this incident deserve the strictest legal punishment, strict action needs to be taken against them and an example of justice and security needs to be set before the people of India, especially women.''
The police behaved unjustly with the gang rape victim who is a dalit girl in Ayodhya and instead of providing justice, pressurized her, because according to reports, the accused are associated with the BJP. BJP governments across the country are working on the policy of turning the police from protectors to predators. In BJP governments, the criminal attitude of the police towards crimes against women actually flourishes by getting the protection of those in power. In such a situation, what should the women of the country do and where should they go for safety and justice?'',she said.
On the other hand, former Odisha CM and BJD chief Naveen Patnaik wrote in an X post, ''The way an army major and a woman were treated at the Bharatpur police station is shocking and beyond comprehension. The way the police have allegedly treated them has shaken the conscience of the country. We hope that the BJP government of Odisha will take strict action against all those involved in this heinous act. I demand a court-monitored SIT investigation and a judicial inquiry into this serious incident.''
