Rail Committee threatens coal blockade from march 15
ANGUL:A day after prime minister enlisted Talcher railway station for re-modernisation,an outfit called Talcher Rail Users Committee has threatened coal transport by rail from March 15 for indefinite period demanding fulfillment of 9-point charter of demands. The memorandum to this effect was submitted to Talcher sub collector Manoj Kumar Tripathy by the committee members today. The memorandum is addressed to the chief minister Naveen Patnaik
The memorandum urged the chief minister to provide land immediately for the construction of loop line between Talcher and Angul. The Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in his speech yesterday at railway station mentioned land acquisition as the main stumbling block for the construction of loop line.
The memorandum was presented by committee president Sangram Keshari Kuanra,Keshab Bhutia,Raj Kishore Sahoo,Chaitanya Pradhan,Binod Lal and others.The main demand in the memorandum was running of all long distance trains through Talcher stations including intercity trains.It said Talcher railway station is one of the oldest rail way station in the country which accrues one of the highest revenue among the station in the country.The committee members said in the memorandum to construct over bridges at several places at Talcher and running of Talcher –Puri Express upto Kaniha.
The committee members Keshab Bhutia said the if the demands are not met by March 15 there will be a complete blockade of coal transport by rail from Talcher for indefinite period.He has urged railway minister and chief minister to address their demands immediately.
