Rajya Sabha Chairman treating opposition step-motherly: Kharge

NEW DELHI:Congress President and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday alleged that he wanted to raise the issue of National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET-UG) in the Upper House, but Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar deliberately ignored and humiliated him.

Kharge also claimed that the Chairman's behavior towards the opposition was step-motherly. It is worth noting that the opposition members were demanding a discussion on the alleged irregularities related to NEET-UG, the 'failure' of the National Examination Agency (NTA) and the issues related to paper leak since the start of the proceedings of the House this morning.

Later Kharge posted on 'X', "70 papers have been leaked in the last seven years, the Modi government has betrayed crores of youth." He said, "We wanted to raise the voice of lakhs of youth who suffered by discussing the NEET scam in the House under Rule 267. So to draw attention to the problem of the people, we asked for a special discussion. We did not want to disturb anyone. We only wanted to raise the issues of the students, but he (Chairman) did not give it a chance, did not pay any attention to it.''

He alleged that his behaviour towards the opposition today was step-motherly.

He claimed, "Chairman ji was only looking at the ruling party. I raised my hand, stood up, followed parliamentary decorum and rules for 10 minutes to draw his attention, but still he did not look at the Leader of Opposition in the House."

Kharge said, "When the Leader of Opposition draws his attention as per the rules, he should look at him, but instead, he deliberately ignored me to humiliate me, I have to either go inside or shout very loudly. So I will definitely say that it is the fault of the Chairperson sahab."
