Spain clinched Euro 2024 title with a dramatic 2-1 victory over England

Berlin, July 15 In a heart-stopping finale at Berlin's Olympic Stadium, Spain clinched the Euro 2024 title with a dramatic 2-1 victory over England, thanks to a late goal that sealed their fourth European Championship triumph on Sunday.

The match was a rollercoaster of emotions, showcasing the resilience and skill of both teams, but ultimately, Spain's determination and tactical brilliance won the day.

The first half seemed a cagey affair, with both teams struggling to create clear-cut chances. England's Phil Foden had the best opportunity, firing a shot on target just before halftime, but Spain's goalkeeper Unai Simon was equal to the task.

Spain dominated possession with 70%, yet they found it tough to penetrate England's well-organised defence. Nico Williams was the standout for Spain, displaying relentless energy on the left wing, while 17-year-old sensation Lamine Yamal had a quieter first half.

England's defence, led by Luke Shaw and Declan Rice, was rock solid, reflecting their conservative approach. Harry Kane, England's star striker, was largely anonymous, with his only notable effort being a blocked shot.

Spain faced a setback when their influential midfielder Rodri had to leave the pitch at halftime due to an injury, bringing Martin Zubimendi into the fray. Despite this, Spain's momentum remained unbroken. Just two minutes into the second half, Yamal delivered a perfect assist to Williams, who calmly slotted the ball into the bottom right corner, putting Spain ahead.

Spain continued to threaten, with Williams and Dani Olmo both coming close to increasing the lead. England responded around the hour mark by substituting the underperforming Kane with Ollie Watkins. This change breathed new life into England's attack, culminating in a spectacular equalizer from substitute Cole Palmer in the 73rd minute. Palmer, becoming the youngest substitute to score in a Euro final, unleashed a brilliant strike from outside the box after a well-coordinated play involving Bukayo Saka and Jude Bellingham.

The match seemed destined for extra time, but Spain capitalised on a defensive lapse by England. In the 86th minute, Marc Cucurella and Mikel Oyarzabal executed a superb give-and-go, with Oyarzabal finishing with precision to put Spain back in front. Despite England's desperate attempts to find another equalizer, including headers from Rice and Marc Guehi that were cleared off the line by Olmo, Spain held firm to secure the victory.

Spain's journey to the Euro 2024 title was marked by resilience and excellence, winning all seven of their matches. This latest triumph adds to their illustrious European history, with previous victories in 1964, 2008, and 2012.

England, despite their talented squad, continue their quest for their first Euro title. The Three Lions will need to regroup and learn from this defeat as they prepare for future challenges.

Spain's triumph in Berlin cements their legacy in European football, while England's wait for Euro glory continues.
