Talcher Fertiliser Project construction completed by around 60 per cent by February end: Minister

 ANGUL: Admitting inordinate delay in the completion of 13288 crore Talcher Fertiliser limited Project, the union minister of state for chemical and fertilizer,Anupriya Patel assured completion of the project as soon as possible.This was The minister informed this while replying to an unstarred question raised by Dhenkanal MP Rudra Narayan Pany in Lok Sabha.

The minister said, the progress of the project is regularly reviewed by Joint Venture Partners and TFL Board and all efforts are being made by TFL for early completion of the project.The TFL is conducting regular contacts with China based company Wuhan Engineering Company.

Patel informed that as on 25 February the overall progress of the project was 65.66 per cent. She said as regards to the outside battery limit package, the overall progress is around 77 per cent. The pipe  rack, plant lighting, boiler and water treatment plant as well as DM Water Plant are in an advanced stage of mechanical completion.

 

 The union minister said to the question that Indian government mandated the revival of Talcher Unit of Fertilizer Corporation of India in Odisha.Accordingly,a joint venture company named Talcher Fertilizer Limited(TFL) has been incorporated for setting up coal gasification based ammonia urea plant having the annual capacity to produce 12.7lakh metric tonne of Urea.This was first of its kind in India.

She said the contract for coal gasification and ammonia urea package were awarded to a Chinese based company in 2029.

However,the minister blamed Covid-19 pandemic for the delay in the implementation of the project. Further she said the progress of the project has been impacted due to the backlog in procurement construction and equipment erection by the Chinese company WECL.

The minister said the targeted timeline of the completion of the project was September2024.

It may be noted Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid foundation stone of TFL in September 2018 at Talcher.The four JVs are Rastriya Chemical and fertiliser,Gas Authority of India Limited,Fertiliser Corporation of India and Coal India Limited.
