Talcher Hingula Mega coal mine stalled by agitating villagers for compensation

TALCHER: Villagers of Ambapal have stalled a mega coal mine Hingula for last two days demanding compensation on their structures and pending jobs. All sorts of production and despatch were stopped for last two days from the coal mines which supplies coal to mainly power sectors of the country as well as to local consumers. Colliery official sources said, the coal mine produces around 40,000 tonne of coal per day and despatches around the same amount of coal.

The villagers of Ambapala were acquired by MCL way back in 1994 have a grievance. They want compensation and that should be paid against the structure they have built as per the government rule. When that was not fulfilled by MCL authorities they resorted to mines bandh stir from October 29.Tens of villagers  of that village stalled the coal mine on Tuesday and stopped all sorts of coal production and transportation.

 

MCL official sources said, the villagers demand were illegal. They demand compensation against the structure which was billed after 9(1) notification of Land Acquisition Act. The sub-committee formed under the chairmanship of sub collector didn’t say about the payment of compensation against these 436 structures billed by villagers around at a distance of more than one kilometres away. Meanwhile, there was a talk between local administration and villagers to end the strike. Reports said ,a police contingent and the magistrate have gone to the Hingula mines in a bid to end the strike.
