Tuskers havoc at Angul-Deogarh border area

ANGUL:For the last three days wild tuskers have been creating havoc in around 15 villages situated at the border areas of Deogarh and Angul division. So far they have destroyed around 10 houses in the area and damaged standing crops besides ruining rice,paddy,vegetables and other materials by entering into the houses.

Despite the best efforts of Chhendipada range officials,the elephant menace is not waning from that area leaving people in fear and distress. The range officials have deployed manpower in the area to patrol round the clock and to chase these elephants.

 

 

 

 Locals said,the three tuskers who are residing in Deogarh jungle in day time, sneak into their area at night.They enter into the thatched houses and eat paddy and other grains by damaging the houses. There is a sense of fear among the villagers of Patkunda  and its adjoining villages when night comes.

 In the daytime also they come and destroyed the paddy fields of these villages. Confirming the menace Chhendiapda range officer Subhra Mohapatra said,the three tuskers who belong to Deogarh area now a days are coming to Chhendipada range area.Mostly at night time  they cross the border and enter into human habitats.Besides damaging houses they also destroyed crops.

 “In wake of the elephant menace we have taken multiple measures to ward off the threat.We  deployed elephant squads in the area who are keeping vigil round the clock and creating awareness among the people.We also make efforts to stop them from entering into our range area from Deogarh but so far we have not been successful.Still we are aware and keeping a strong watch on the matter”,said the ranger.
