Villagers paralysed four coal mines at Talcher Coalfield

 TALCHER:Agitating villagers of Joragadia have stalled have paralysed  four mega coal mines at Talcher today demanding immediate employment in lieu of their land among others.The agitationists also locked  the general manager office of Jaganath and Bharatpur besides stalling the mines to press for the fulfillment of their demand.

 According to coal officials these four coal mines together produce more than 2 lakh tonne of coal per day.The mines which have been paralysed are Bhubaneswari,Anant,Jaganath and Bharatpur.These four mines supply coal to the  country’s key power sectors including NTPC and Nalco.

  According to sources ,the 4(1) notifications of  land Acquisition Act of village Joragadia was done in August last .But there after 9(1) and 11(1) have not done in the meanwhile .Protesting over the delay in the  providing the employment the villagers resorted to mines bandh and office  lock up.

 

  Requesting anonymity, a senior coal official of Jagannath Area said  there is a procedure of land acquisition  of these villages under the Land Acquisition Act. After 4!) notification, other notifications are done to complete the process.The state government and Manadhi Coal company are  on the job of  executing the land acquisition process.

  There was a discussion between MCL and agitaionists villagers but that didn’t help dissolving the issue and the strike is continuing .Talcher sub collector Manoj Kumar Tripathy said,”We are watching the situation very carefully.There has been GM level talks with the agitating villagers today.Tomorrow I have called a meeting of the villagers and MCL authorities to sort out the issue.

 The shut down of four mega mines  during terminal period of financial period of financial year has cost the coal company very dear.On the other hand the villagers in Talcher also have grievances for employment and land compensation.In absence of the mechanism  such type of agitations  are recurring in Talcher Coalfield which accounts for 60 per cent coal production of Mahanadi coalfield limited.
